Overview

Nudge Budget (“the App”) is a personal finance tool designed to help you manage your pay cycles, track bills, and monitor spending. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

1. Data We Collect

1.1 Data You Provide Directly

Pay schedule information — your pay frequency and payday dates
Bill information — bill names, amounts, and due dates
Spending data — receipt amounts, merchant names, dates, and categories you enter manually or via scanning
Pay amounts — gross pay you enter each pay cycle

1.2 Data Collected Automatically

Location data — if you enable Smart Receipt Reminders, the App uses your device’s location in the background to detect when you may have completed a shopping trip. Your location coordinates are processed locally on your device and are never transmitted to our servers or stored.

1.3 Data from Third-Party Services

Email receipt import — if you connect Gmail or Outlook, the App requests read-only access to your email to identify order confirmation and receipt emails. Email content is sent to our processing server solely to extract receipt information (merchant, amount, date). We do not read, store, or share the content of your emails beyond what is necessary to extract receipt data.

2. How We Use Your Data

Location data	Send timely receipt reminders after shopping trips (device-only, never stored)
Email receipt data	Automatically import receipts into your spending log

We do not use your data for advertising, sell it to third parties, or share it with anyone except as described in this policy.

3. Where Your Data is Stored

Local Storage

All personal financial data — your bills, pay history, spending records, streaks, and badges — is stored locally on your device using SQLite. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use a feature that requires it (such as receipt scanning or email import).

Our Servers (Supabase)

We use Supabase, a secure cloud infrastructure provider, to process:

Receipt images for scanning (image is sent, processed, and discarded — not stored)
Email content for receipt extraction (email text is sent, processed, and discarded — not stored)
Daily spending insights (anonymized cycle statistics are sent to generate your insight)

No personally identifiable information is retained on our servers after processing is complete.

4. Third-Party Services

Nudge Budget integrates with the following third-party services:

Anthropic (Claude AI)

Used to extract data from receipt images and email content, and to generate daily spending insights. Data sent to Anthropic is processed according to their Privacy Policy.

Supabase

Used as our secure backend infrastructure for processing receipt and email data. Data is processed according to their Privacy Policy.

Google (Gmail)

If you connect your Gmail account, we use Google’s OAuth 2.0 authentication. We request read-only access limited to identifying receipt and order confirmation emails. We do not access, store, or share any other email content. Access is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.

Microsoft (Outlook)

If you connect your Outlook account, we use Microsoft’s OAuth 2.0 authentication. We request read-only access limited to identifying receipt and order confirmation emails. We do not access, store, or share any other email content. Access is governed by Microsoft’s Privacy Policy.

Apple (Push Notifications)

We use Apple’s Push Notification service to send payday reminders. No personal data is transmitted through this service beyond what is necessary to deliver the notification.

5. Location Data

If you enable Smart Receipt Reminders in Settings:

The App uses iOS background location services to detect when you may have completed a shopping trip
Your location coordinates are processed entirely on your device
Location data is never transmitted to our servers, stored, or shared with any third party
You can disable location access at any time in your iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Nudge Budget

6. Email Access

If you connect Gmail or Outlook:

We request read-only access — we cannot send, delete, or modify your emails
We only process emails that appear to be order confirmations or receipts
Email content is sent to our processing server, analyzed to extract receipt data, and immediately discarded
We do not store, index, or share the content of your emails
You can disconnect your email account at any time in the App under Spending → Email import → Disconnect
You can also revoke access directly in your Google or Microsoft account settings

7. Children’s Privacy

Nudge Budget is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your data — all your financial data is visible within the App at all times
Delete your data — use Settings → Clear All Data to permanently delete all data stored on your device
Disconnect email access — revoke Gmail or Outlook access at any time within the App or through your Google/Microsoft account settings
Disable location access — turn off location permissions at any time in iPhone Settings
Contact us — reach out with any privacy questions or concerns

9. Data Security

All financial data is stored locally on your device and protected by your device’s security (Face ID, passcode)
Communications between the App and our servers use HTTPS encryption
We do not store payment information, social security numbers, bank account numbers, or any sensitive financial credentials
OAuth tokens for email access are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes we will notify you within the App.
